Outlook 2003 Logon Problem

I have a user who up until now had his email monitored by someone else in
Outlook, since he didn't want or have a computer. Because of archiving
issues, I've setup an account for him on a workstation and can successfully
logon to Windows, but when I go to setup Outlook, I keep getting a logon box,
and when I enter the credentials with which I successfully logged on to
Windows, I get an error message that my logon credentials are incorrect.
I've gone to the AD Users and Computers on the Exchange server, reset his
password to the same one I was using to logon to Windows, but that didn't
work. I noticed he had "Password Never Expires" checked in his account, so I
unchecked that, reset his password again to be the same as the successful
Windows logon credentials, but I still get the logon popup when I try to
configure Outlook. I'm stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you ping the server by it's FQDN? Are the mailbox rights set correctly
in AD U&C? (should be done correctly by deafult but doesn't hurt to verify
this :-)

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I can ping the server.
Exactly which mailbox rights do you mean? Where should I look?
