Outlook 2003: I can't accept task (Accept doesn't work)

I receive the task and there are two buttons - accept or decline. I push the
accept button and nothing - task doesn't go to task list and the respond also
is not sent.

Did you install the January security update for Outlook? If so, that update apparently breaks task request acceptances. Removing the update is the only workaround at present.

Yes, I installed the January security update for Outlook. I can try to
reinstall security update, but it will be secure to be without the January
security update for Outlook?

Thanks in advance!

I removed the January security updates for Outlook, but that didn't help -
Tasks buttons still doesn't work and tasks cann't to be accepted or declined.

And another problem from my point of view related to Task problem is that
tasks which were received in 2006 can't be opened by double click or in any
other way (when they are in the Outlook Inbox folder), but they can be review
in Reading panel. Old task updates can be opened by double click.

YES! It works, however old tasks can not be repaired. This works only with
the new tasks. But it fine for short time.
Thanks!

We are experiencing the same problem. We are running Outlook 2003 Basic
and Pro on Windows 2k Pro.
I am having difficulties removing the January Security Update. It is
not showing up in the Add/Remove Programs area. I have confirmed,
though, that the update has been installed.

Any suggestions? This problem is killing us.

Thanks in advance

have you tried going into the add remove programs...click on the show
updates tab. then go and uninstall the update for office that ends in
243 reboot then resend the task...

The update ends in 2843. I had both updates installed and they were
blocking my tasks. When I installed them, new tasks are now able to be
accepted. Unfortuneatly old tasks have to be resent for them to start
working.

Thanks for the help!!

I have Microsoft Office Proffessional 2003. I am having the same problem as
all of you. I can receive a new task assigned to me in my email, but the
'accept' and 'decline' buttons don't do what they are supposed to. I can send
out and assign tasks to others just fine though.

I didn't find a securtiy upadate for outlook in my add/remove programs. I
did find the security update for excel, powerpoint, and windows, but nothing
for outlook. So I uninstalled the updates I did have, rebooted, had a new
task sent to me, and still...nothing.

Please Help...anyone?? This is so frustrating.

Sue,

We're having this same problem after installing Outlook 2003 for the first
time and running all available updates - task assignment and updating are not
working. Tried looking for 2843 update and it is NOT in the list of extended
updates for Office. Which other updates need to be rolled back? Looks like
this problem has been going on for months...

We don't have any detailed information on that. The advice we've received from Microsoft is that the problem is not straightforward and that if removing the update doesn't help or if it's not present, then you should file a support incident.

Hi,

where can I download this particular fix (KB899340)? doing windows
update and office update can't find it.

my outlook have sp2 installed but none of the kb fixes told here are
shown at the add/remove menu from windows.

Is there a possibility to "manually" install this particular KB899340
to solve this problem?

thanks!

As the article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899340/ explains, you must contact Microsoft Support to get the download.
