Outlook 2003 forms problem

Since upgrading from Outlook 97 to Outlook 2003 we are experiencing a problem
when choosing a form.

When our user attempts this they initially get "form load failed", then
clicking OK brings up the form window. The problem as I see it is Outlook is
trying to load from the Organizational Library, which we do not use.

Is there any way you can point this path to the Personal Forms Library?

I have tried renaming the .dat file, clearing the cache and restarting
outlook but to no avail.

any help is very much appreciated.

The reason I think it is trying to load from Organizational Library is that
path is the default path shown after you click OK to the error.

The user is doing File..New...Choose Form then the error comes up. This
error is happening to all our users who attempt to choose a form.

I was wondering if you can configure Outlook to point by default to the
Personal Forms area??

Thanks,

Mark

Did you also change servers as part of the Outlook migration? What version
of Exchange are you using? Can you go ahead and set up an Organizational
Forms library on your Exchange server? I suspect that would solve the
problem. You can leave the permissions set so no one can write items there.

Can they switch to the Personal Forms library after the Choose Form dialog
comes up?

You mean in the Choose Form dialog? No. There are other ways to launch
forms, though. See http://www.outlookcode.com/d/launchform.htm

Hi again Sue,

We upgraded last Autumn from Office 97, Exchange 5.5, NT4 over to Office
2k3, Exchange 2k3 and Server 2k3 running in mixed mode (at the moment)

My reason for not setting Organizational Forms up is that each person has
their own forms.

Thanks

I think setting up an Organizational Forms library will solve the problem,
though. As I said, you don't have to put anything in it.

I have now added a new organizational form, called JB. Default access is
Reviewer. Is there anything else I need to do as I am still getting the "form
load failed" error.

You mean you added the Organizational Forms Library, not an "organizational
form" right?

Can you launch any forms using the command-line switch method on the page I
suggested?

It might be time to run Help | Detect and Repair.

No, it was just a new form under EFORMS

You need to create a new *folder* under EFORMS, not a new form. Name it
Organizational Forms to be consistent with standard Exchange practices.

Thanks Sue,

The only option you have when you Right Click on EFORMS is to create a new
Organizational Form. I did this and when I named it as you said the error no
longer appears.

does Exchange/Outlook 2003 handle form templates in the same way as before,
using .oft files? A few of our users previously designed forms in Outlook and
saved them as .oft files, but that option no longer appears to be available
in the new version.

Many thanks again,

Mark

..oft files can be used in any version of Outlook, but they haven't run code
since Outlook 2000 SP2, for security reasons.
