Outlook 2003/Exchange 2003/Internet Mail Only

Can Outlook 2003 be configured as "Internet Mail Only" with an Exchange 2003
server? I currently have one user who is configured for Internet Mail Only
but is using Outlook 2000, their config works fine.....but I cannot get an
Outlook 2003 user to make the connection....The error is that the user name
or password were rejected.

Outlook 2003 doesn't have different modes anymore (BTW; neither did Outlook
2002/XP). Outlook 2003 is capable of making all sorts connections within one
profile. Also note that Outlook 2000 had to be configured in CW mode to make
a connection to Exchange.

As for your issue; verify your account settings and/or try it with a clean
mail profile;

Robert, thank you for your response. Let me give you a few more details.
The Outlook 2003 user is a contractor, other wise I would be using Outlook
2000. Since he is contract, is not our intent to have him log in to our
network to make a direct connection to Exchange. Therefore, his computer
does not belong to the domain. The user is able to view his email through
the Outlook Web Client...this is how he is viewing and responding to email
currently. I have created a profile for this user on a spare computer...the
profile on this computer is new and has the same response as the profile on
his laptop. I am able to logon to the test computer as the user
(authenticated by the domain)....there does not seem to be anything wrong
with the credentials....there is a problem; however, with the authentication
of the username or password when trying to download the email in the Exchange
mailbox. The only thing that can be incorrect within the profile settings is
the authentication choices under "More Settings." I would not think that
these settings need to be any different than my Outlook 2000 user who is
using Internet Mail Only. The only difference between the two users, other
than version of the email client, is that the Outlook 2000 user's computer is
part of the domain. But I have eliminated this as an issue as my test
computer is part of the domain and I still recieve the same error with the
test computer as with the Outlook 2003 user's computer. Is there something
funky with the Outlook 2003 and RPC over HTTP? Is there something I need to
do at the mailbox to allow communication with Outlook 2003?

Do you have the server configured for RPC over HTTP? What type of account
did he use with Outlook 2000? Did you try the same account in Outlook 2003?
