Outlook 2003 error

I am attempting to install Microsoft Office 2003 on my Vista computer. The
setup seems to work fine until I attempt to open Outlook and then I receive
the following error: "Cannot start Mircrosoft Office Outlook. Unable to ope
the Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not
available. Contact your administrator if problem persists." This is home
computer without networking. I tried the scanpst.exe but could not find that
on my computer. Outlook was working fine this morning and when I attempted to
restore my old .pst folders after a system restore, this error began. I have
uninstalled and re-installed three times but get the same error. Any ideas???
Could this be Vista related?

OK, I was able to create new e-mail profile but when I try to open new data
file to bring in the saved .pst, I get the following error:
C:\users\teri\appdata\local\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst is not a personal
folders file.

What next?

It appears that whatever method you used to transfer that PST to your Vista
PC has ruined the PST.

Should I try the scanpst.exe on each of the four pst files that are in the
backup files?
Or is there another way to determine if the files are indeed corrupted?

In general, one Outlook says the file is not a PST file, SCANPST will also
say that, but it won't hurt to give it a shot.

There are many PST recovery programs that are available for a fee. Google
will find them if you search for "recover PST" or "Office recovery".

Thank you for your help. I ran the SCANPST.EXE and now I have successfully
opened by backed up .pst folder. Thanks again.

Notice that Milly did not say "create a new account", she said "create a new
mail profile". "Account" and "profile" are not synonymous.
