Outlook 2003 definitely has problems if you try to check multiple Pop accounts.

I've been using Outlook 2003 with multiple Pop accounts and it
definitely has performance issues doing a send and receive. If I check
each account individually things work just fine, if I try and run a
send and receive to check multiple Pop accounts Outlook just bogs my
whole machine down. I do notice that when it happens the hard drive
light is on non-stop. Not sure what Outlook is doing to the hard
drive, but I'm curious.

How many is multiple?
Are these all the same POP3 server?
What is your automatic send/receive interval set to?
Are you running a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook?
