outlook 2003 closes when opened

I recently installed (clean install) outlook '03 on a fully updated xp PC.
When I open outlook it closes imediatly unless I can get my mouse up to one
of the drop menu's (tools, action, help, ect...). Then the program will
operate perfectly until the next time I close and re-open it. Any thought
would be appreciated!
