Outlook 2003 changing to Offline

I am having, seemingly at random, Outlook 2003 clients switching from
connected to working offline? I can not figure out why or how they are
switching to work offline. The users are baffeled and swear that they did
not switch to work offline?

We run Office 2003 on windows xp with Exchange 2003 on Windows 2003.

Is there a key sequence or something they are hiting that would change their
client to "work offline".

Switching them back to working "connected" corrects the problem, but through
out the organization, this is happening at random?

Looking forward to your advice.

Outlook switches to Off-line mode when the connection to the Exchange server
gets lots. Check your network configuration both physical as software
configured for errors.

Could you explain this a little further. My confusion comes from the fact:
If I disconnect my network cable from my computer, Outlook switches to
"disconnected". When I plug my network cable back in it switches back to
"connected".

If I reboot or stop the services on my Exchange server, my Outlook System
tray icon reports that the exchange server is unavailable. When the
Exchange server (exchange 2003) is back up, everything returns to normal.

I am having trouble understanding when Outlook switches itself to "Work
Offline" vs. disconnected or exchange server is unavailable - the difference
being that when it is switched to "Work Offline" it takes the user
de-selecting "work offline" to return to normal. Note: everyone on my
network works in "cached mode".
