Outlook 2003 and Word XP?

Outlook 2003 seems to deny me the option to use Word as its editor.

Is there a way around this?

Not that I know of other then upgrading to Word 2003. Office does not like
to work with mixed components.

All versions of Office/Outlook require the same version due to Office
Automation issues. Likewise, with your scenario, the Send To commands will
not work, nor will Mail Merges.
