Outlook 2003 and Windows 2003 SP1

R

Russ Fertig

Outlook 2003 worked fine on Windows server 2003 untill Sp1 was applied. Now
it states every time i try to start it
"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window.
The set of folders could not be opened. The set of folders could not be
opened. The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable.
Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."

I have tried these actions to repair the problem:

Removed all office applications, and reinstalled.
Reinstalled windows 2003.
Created new mail profile.
Tried entering the ip address of the Exchange Server instead of the FQDN.
Tried scanning the .pst file

If i put Outlook in Cached mode it will half work, meaning I can make it
download some of the messages in its folders before the connection times
out.

Any suggestions?

Okay, let me clarify the network setup.

I have three machine involved in this diagnostic example.

1. Exchange Server 2003 sp1

2. Windows 2003 member server sp1

3. Windows XP Sp2

From the windows XP machine, Outlook 2003 opens fine. From the Windows 2003
member server, this is where im getting the Outlook errors.

Checked the http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896742 link, not using the
Windows Firewall or Security Configuration Wizard untill this issue can be
cleared up.
