Outlook 2003 – Changing Headings In PST Files

I have created several "pst" files that I use to sort my mail into. Each of
these files has a "IN" and a "SENT" folder. In the normal Inbox folder, the
field headings are "From, Subject, Received," etc. and in the normal Sent
folder they are "To, Subject, Sent," etc.

The problem is that the field headings randomly change such that the IN
folder has the field headings To, Subject, and Sent and in the SENT folder
has From, Subject, and Received.

I can use the Field Chooser to change them back, but the settings will
change at a later date.

This happens both in the main file (outlook.ost), and the local pst folders
I use to file old e-mails in. This is random, sometimes one folder,
sometimes several, never consistently.

Everything else in the computer seems to work normally, the AV is up to
date, so are the updates. This has been going on for over a year and is just
plain annoying.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Alternatively, is there a special type of
folder that only allows a specific configuration?

The computer is shutdown every day, and restarted every morning. The
operating system is: Windows XP-SP2, Office Pro 2003-SP1, ThinkPad T-60
Laptop, Symantec Anti-Virus 9.0

That is because you are changing the Messages view and not setting it to the
Sent To view.

Thank you for your response, however the website did not help.

In the selected folder, the field headings physically change, I have to use
the "Field Chooser" to re-install the headers I want (To and Sent in the SENT
folder), (From and received in the IN Folder). The problem I am having is
that they change back randomly.

Your suggestion using the "Sent To" setting restores the headers only in the
SENT folder, the IN folder I still have to do manually.

Is there some way to lock the view once it is they way I want to keep it?

Leave the Inbox folder in their "Messages" view. Reset it if you somehow
mixed it up;
View-> Arrange By-> Custom...-> Reset current view

For the Outbox you set the "Sent To" view. Reset this one if needed as well.

To reset all your views to default on all folders and to start over
correctly, you can start Outlook with the /cleanviews switch
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /cleanviews

I changed the views as you suggested, that seems to work. At least now they
are uniform in each folder. If they do change, it should be easier to
correct by reapplying the view.
