Outlook 2002 won't cleanly shut down

Gerry Voras

I have a problem with Outlook 2002 not shutting down properly. It happens
only about 50% of the time, so I haven't been able to completely diagnose
it.

Recently upgraded from 2000, which worked fine. Now, when I start Outlook
and click send/receive, the progress counter stays at 0%. When I check task
manager, I find that there are 2 instances of Outlook.exe running.
Terminating both and restarting Outlook fixes the problem.

Later, when I'm done with Outlook and close the application, I find
sometimes that Outlook.exe is still in the task manager. About 10% of the
time, it won't let me terminate it and I have to reboot.

Virus scans, service packs, and mal-ware scans have all been run. Any
ideas?

That's an idea... and that may explain why my wife isn't reporting the same
problems.

BTW, my OS is XP PRo.
