outlook 2002 Permanently deleting read items

My outlook is Permanently deleting my read items instead
of sending them to my deleted items folder
However if I delete an unread message it is sent to my
deleted items folder

I cannot find any setting that is automatically
Permanently deleting my read messages

Can someone help me find out why
