Outlook 2002 password mystery/problem.

My Outlook 2002(in Office XP) running on an IBM laptop with Windows XP
recently asked for a password to get access to it, but I never (knowingly)
password protected it. I use it for the calender function and synchronize it
with a Pocket PC. The Pocket PC is password protected but that password does
not work in the new request. I tried uninstalling Office XP then
reinstalling it, hoping that I could then simply reload ActiveSync and start
over, but Outlook still asks for a password.
I did previously try to install the Office XP on a new Tablet PC, as it is
largely replacing the laptop (once all info is transferred). But I
uninstalled it from the Tablet when I found out that the licensing agreement
wouldn't allow me to do that. (It was after this that I ran into the
problem, whether by coincidence or not). (Trying to load Outlook 2000 from
the original Pocket PC disc onto the Tablet PC using Windows XP did not fly
either, a .dll file missing)
Any suggestions short of buying a new copy of Outlook?
Thank you

At what point does it ask?

It asks as soon as I try to open Outlook, by double click or by R click and
then open (hence, I can not get into any part of it).

Most of the time I see this is when Outlook is trying to synchronize
passwords with a network password. In this case I believe the heart of the
problem is the password protection on the handheld device. Try disabling the
password protection on your handheld and then reinstalling the device on the
laptop and resynchronize through activesynch. Good luck

And exactly what text is in the box?

Thank you for your suggestions, but it did not work. I did have success
eventually by uninstalling Office XP and reinstalling it in the "restore to
original" setting (trying to "fix damaged files after deleting all Outlook
related things I could find did not work). To clarify, what I was being
asked before I could get into Outlook was the Password for "Personal
Folders". When I tried to go around it Outlook closed down with messages
such as:
1) "Runtime Error" trying to terminate the application in an unusual way-
contact applications support
2) Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library unable to display the folder
3) unable to open default email folders
4) Personal Information Manager is Running
etc.

Thanks again, mimoore
