Outlook 2002 not retaining password in Vista Home Basic

Password for email account is needed everytime I want to access my POP3 email
account. I have seen on the knowledge base that this issue can be resolved
by going into the registry for older OS, but it does not reference a fix when
using Vista.

I don't want to go into the registry armed with the wrong information.

Thanks,

Prescott

That happens when Mail cannot identify using the password you have set.
Either you have set the wrong password or have not set one.

I have gone into Tools/email accounts every time, selected ' remember
password' checkbox and run test, receiving complete connection respond. When
I exit Outlook and then return, when I select send /receive, I am prompted
for password.
If I now go into email accounts, the password field is blank, but the check
box is still selected.

I'm having the exact same problem. Has nothing to do with what Matt I. has
indicated. If found the XP fix online, but there is nothing for Vista. This
VISTA is a total piece of junk, if you ask me. It won't recognize printers,
won't allow other computers on a network to recognize it, and I've spent tons
of hours fixing stupid little things like the password junk. VISTA needs to
be able to see better.......what junk!

I have also been having this problem. I've tried all the steps described in
this post from the various people and also tried to adjust registry, but
wasn't allowed to delete the key that it described to delete. I would
appreciate someone looking into this and giving a solution. Thank you!

It seems like this issue is in stall mode. Is anyone looking into this? I
am using Vista Home Premium and having the same issue. Every time I close
Outlook, it requires that I reenter the password.

Looking at the Outlook newsgroups, there are a lot of meesages about this
problem with Outlook 2002.

This error with Outlook 2002 when installed on Windows Vista. The technical
details are that Outlook 2002 uses the "Protected Storage Interface" to
store its passwords, and this is not supported in Windows Vista. The
following article describes the problem in more detail, but does not give a
fix for Outlook 2002 when installed on Vista.

Save password setting not retained in Outlook or Outlook Express:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290684/en-us

Mainstream support for Outlook 2002 ended in June, 2006.

I am also having this problem and I find it crazy that they are not doing
anything about it! Has anybody got any news or found solutions yet?
This password problem is driving me crazy! And I also cannot print to the
network printer, I wish I had XP.
