Outlook 2002, much delay when typing reply

Sorry if this is a repeat, I seem to have lost my first attempt to post my first message, I hit the upload button by mistake, I did not have any file to upload.

I have Outlook 2002, now on my second computer, which began to introduce large delay in the display of typed characters when in the "reply" or "forward" mode, no such delay exists on a "create" message.

I found some information on the web a few months back that said MS has a know security problem that causes delay when checking each typed character when using HTML. Fix was to change font to RTF, which I did and which fixed the problem for a couple of months. Now the delay is back, it takes 20 to 30 seconds before one line of typed text is displayed.

Appreciate any help on a fix that can be implemented at the user level, I am not working at the program level in Outlook.

When do you change the format (not the "font", as you say)? You'll need to
change it on each message with the Format menu. No matter what you've
chosen for your default format, replies and forwards in Outlook use the
format of the original message. You may be replying to an HTML message,
making your format HTML even though your default format is Rich Text (which
only another Outlook user can read, buy the way).

Also consider removing some of the domains in the Restricted network zone in
IE, if you have a lot of them. I don't know if it will help, but it could.

Brian,

Thanks, this all makes sense, I think there were some messages that didn't have the delay when typing a reply.

It is troublesome that non-Outlook users can't receive RTF, does that include the popular Mozilla Thunderbird? I can test, I use both, but ask for the benefit of other readers.

I was surprised to see the traffic on the Outlook forum. This message of mine was not 24 hours old when I went looking for any answers, I finally gave up on paging through the list, and did a search on the subject.

Thanks, you also confirm my (poor) memory that the problem has something to do with IE7. I can remove most or all restricted domains as I use IE7 only for Microsoft update (and a couple of sites that still will not accept Firefox.

HTML messages demonstrate the delay. Other formats don't.

I understand that Eudora can handle Rich Text, but I've not heard that
Thunderbird can.

Hundreds of messaegs per day in this particular group.

Let us know if it helps.

Ok, with the help of some friends I found out how to remove all the restricted sites in IE7, namely:
Also new to IE7 the "Reset Internet Explorer settings" will remove all sites in the Trusted and Restricted Zones.

I did this, and Outlook 2002 no longer has any noticeable typing delay. :p
