Outlook 2002 - Make it forget past e-mail addresses?

J

Joe D.

Is there a way to clear out the cache in Outlook 2002 so that it
doesn't try to "auto-complete" the name I am typing with old e-mail
addresses? I use Outlook quite a bit every day, but it is still
presenting me with e-mail addresses I deleted months ago when I type
someone's name on a new message. It does also list the current one,
but I have to actually choose the current one from the list. It's not
a major problem, just annoying. Seems like if you haven't used a
deleted e-mail address in month, it should eventually forget about it.

Thanks!

Joe D.

Uh oh, looks they don't stay gone. Within a day or two, these deleted
e-mail address show up again as a choice on the auto-complete. They
are not listed in contacts and I haven't used them in about a year.
Any other suggestions? Seems like there should be a cache to clear
somewhere.

Thanks!

Once deleted correctly, they will only return if you send another message to
that address.
To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:

I have not sent any e-mail to those addresses in several months. If I
had, I'm sure they would have bounced as invalid. These are for my
parents, whom I e-mail 2-3 times weekly.

After following the instructions referenced, it does appear the
auto-complete cache has been cleared. Does this file perform any
other functions for Outlook?

Thanks

Joe

In theory, it is also supposed to store autoresolution data, but there's
some evidence that it no longer does so.

I'm using outlook 2002 (windows xp prof), but how come I can't find .NK2 file
in my harddisk.

I have turned on finding hidden/system files but still can't find it.
Anyway, I can find it from c:\Document & Setting\[My profile]\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\[My profile name].NK2

Thank you!
