Outlook 2002 Inbox: once read & closed font shrinks to tiny, tiny

Outlook 2002 Inbox: once read & closed the Subject line's font size of some
messages (not all) shrinks to a tiny almost illegible size; the Subject
line's font only is affected. This did not use to happen so somehow recently
I've made a choice I guess that has this font shrinkage as a consequence.

Perhaps this feature's purpose is to serve as a visual cue that the
particular message has been read; but why then doesn't it happen with all
messages' Subject line?

I have no idea how to restore the mode (?) I had previously which did have
this annoying feature.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

I did not understand Diane Ponemsky's reply because I didn't know what to do
once I had accessed the Customize Current View dialog box.

There I am presented with the "View Summary" dialog box with six (not
Outlook 2003's seven) buttons under "Description". (There is no 'Modify'
button.) What do I do from there?

Outlook 2002 does not provide me (as far as I can see) access to the "Define
Views" dialog box that is available with View/Current Views/Define Views. The
Define Views box presents me with a table "Views for folder 'Inbox' with
'Current View' at the top high-lighted. But none of the Views listed in the
table describe the font shrinkage problem. I am satisfied in every other
respect with my Current View and I just want to eliminate the font shrinkage
feature only---but that feature is not mentioned in the table. Perhaps I'm
being obtuse but I still don't get it.

(Incidently, there is a telling cartoon on the internet

Albert Einstein at his blackboard filled with equations. The caption: "But I
still do not understand Outlook"

if you have 6 buttons, then choose automatic formatting.

outlook 2002 has the define views dialog look for it at View, Current View,
Define views - but before you go there you need to know what view you are
using (show the advanced toolbar and look for the view name in the Current
view tool) - then select that view by name (wild guess, it's probably called
Messages). Then click Modify.

Diane,

Thank you for persisting; I think I've gotten rid of the shrinking font
feature at last---although I don't understand why, other than it is part of
one of the 12 Views displayed in the "Define Views for 'Inbox'" table. Why
the shrinking font feature is present is not explained anywhere that I've
been able to locate.

I guess what would help me understand the consequences of choosing each of
those 12 Views in the table would be to have a link to a full description of
what each of those Views would look like---side by side, for
comparison---when applied.

Anyhow, immediate problem solved and your assistence is much appreciated.

Thank you again,

falco
