OUTLOOK 2002...Archive

Using Outlook 2002.... When the Popup Window appears recommending I
Archive, I always select OK. However, today when that window appeared and I
clicked OK I noticed it was Archiving DELETED ITEMS. That seemed a waste of
space in my opinion, I deleted the items in my Deleted Folder because I no
longer needed them so why should they be archived (I went thru folders today
and deleted old item I no longer needed) ? I went to the Outlook folder and
saw the Archive Folder, it showed it was accessed today. The folders I have
in the OUTLOOK Sub Folder are (1) Outlook.pst (which I am sure houses all
e-mails/Data) (2)Archive.pst (3)Outlook1.pst (4) Outlook1.log (5)
Outlook.log (6) Archive.log.
What if any of these folders can I safely delete (other than
Outlook.pst....which again house all of Outlooks current messages/data). Is
there a Utility that can be used to Clean up non essential Outlook saved
data?

We cannot look for you what is being contained in which pst-file. If a
pst-file isn't mounted to Outlook already you can view its contents by
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

The log files can be opened in a text editor to view the contents. If you do
no longer want it you can delete it but make sure you unmount the pst-file
first by right clicking on the root of the folderset and choose Close.

Thank You for your reply, I am still encountering a problem. I opened the
folder where the pst files are located; clicked on the Archive file, OPEN
WITH......clicked Selected a Program.... I tried Wordpad, Notebook, Internet
Explorer.....what opened was not readable.

Correct. PST files can ONLY be opened by Outlook. In Outlook go to
File-Open-Outlook Data File and open it that way. That is the ONLY way you
can open a pst file.
