Outlook 2002 and 2003

We have several users who are getting a message from
exchange that says "retrieving data from exchange server"
daily sometimes every 10 -15 minutes. All of the users
are on Windows XP and have either Office 2002 or Office
2003. Installing the Office service pack 3 and putting
the IP address in the hosts file seemed to help the
office 2002 users but now that some have installed
Windows service pack 2 they are getting the error message
again. I have found nothing that fixes the message with
Office 2003. Does anyone have any suggestions
 
We now see our XP machines doing the same thing. The MS KB articles say this
is a normal popup for Outlook 2002 and above since there was no pop up before
Outlook 2002. BUT, I wish I could figure out why there is this delay causing
the popup. ANYONE have a resolution?
