Outlook 2000 SP-3 will not log off unless computer is shutdown

Outlook 2000 SP-3 will not log off unless computer is shutdown, restarted.
The window will close but is open in the background somewhere because when a
new email comes in it flags me it came in. I have heard that an Adobe file
needs to be moved to My documents....
Any help is much appreciated
