Outlook 2000, sending message issue

I have a user that uses Outlook 2000, when he types in a name it auto fills
and is correct, when he attempts to send it Outlook creates another name
after it, for example he sends an e-mail to Smith, John when he send it he
receives a invalid e-mail address and it shows up on the address line as
Smith, Johm; John. I have checked all of his options and I don't see anything
that would cause this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

oh and i should add, might want to double check the setting about using a
comma as an address separator. Should be unchecked since Exchange shops
tend to do Last, First.
