Outlook 2000 IMO, Win2K, PST files problems

Ad nauseum...

PST files from Win ME machine.
New Win2K , patched (etc.) and OUTLOOK standalone 2000.

I am not an OUTLOOK adept person.

I need to bring over the past from a local subdirectory (copied
off floppy to new system) and have the contacts, calendar and
tasks show in the "main" VIEW (far left view, not 'folder view',
what is that 'main view' called?)

When I import the PST (I did try OPENING IT, but nothing showed
in the 'main' icon/contacts-email-calender) I do GET a 'personal
folder' that shows ONLY in the 'FOLDER VIEW' - I've been able to
copy 'some' of the emails over (BTW, how do I permanently delete
the deleted emails - the number to the right of deleted folder
stays almost the same?) - but CANNOT get the calender or the tasks
over to that "main" view section (that is when I click on the far
left calender, nothing shows, but the 'personal folders' subdirectory
of calendar has ALL the appointments...

So,
1. How do I get a .pst file (just a bit over 2 MBs) to open in the main
view/selections to the far left of OUTLOOK 2000?

2. How do I GET RID of these two identical 'personal folders' listed in
the 'folders view' of OUTLOOK - AFTER I get all that data where I want it?

3. How do I permanently delete the 'deleted mail'?

GREATLY appreciate the help. Thanks.

You should simply have configured Outlook to use your previous PST file. To
use another PST file (such as one from an earlier installation) and set it
to be the default for your current installation of Outlook, you will first
need to know the location and name of the PST file you'd like to use as your
new default. Then use the following directions for IMO:
- File menu > Open > Personal Folders file > migrate to the previous PST
file location to open it
- Right-click on the root of the new set of folders in the folder pane (View
Folder List)
- Choose Properties
- Check the "Deliver POP mail" box
- Quit & restart Outlook
- Now you can Close the PST file that you were previously using (R-click on
that pst folder while in Folder View and select "Close <foldername>
Folders"). If you have any information in your former PST that you'd like to
transfer to your new default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the
other before you close the old one.

Did you really follow the directions? It looks to me as if you only opened
the other PST without setting it as your default.

Hi Russ,
Believe I did follow the instructions, but... (assuming that
the 'defaulting' occurred when one selects the 'deliver pop3 mail'
settings, as there is nothing else to it?) let me ask this
question... I have, one way or another, created a 'new' PST file
that OUTLOOK is using.
The OUTLOOK TOOLBAR (far left set of icons) is functional for
EMAIL, CONTACTS, NOTES... but I want ONLY TO copy over (now)
the CALENDAR and TASKS data...
I have (using the folder view) a +CALENDAR / Calendar1 type
view in which all the data is IN CALENDAR1 and the 'normal'
CALENDAR is empty.

Similar situation with TASKS...

How then can I 'copy' the CALENDAR1 data INTO CALENDAR ?
I have tried the 'copy' command in the menu and it results in
a CALENDAR2 folder, and so forth (same with TASKS)

Thanks.
