Outlook 2000: IMAP Client

I recently needed to add a remote IMAP account to Outlook 2000 and was
unable to find any way to do so. When configuring the mail account, I
only saw a field for POP3 and nowhere did I see any indication of
Outlook 2000 supporting IMAP. I did a quick search and came up with a
few sites that showed how to configure IMAP accounts in Outlook 2000.
All of them showed a dialog where I should be able to select the
protocol I desire. The dialog I see on my computer has no drop-down
box, only a field that says POP3.

Does Outlook 2000 require an update before it supports IMAP? If so,
where do I find this update? Otherwise, how do I configure an IMAP
account in Outlook 2000?

Thank you in advance,

Well. I guess I can't be in "corporate mode" if I want to use IMAP. Is
there any way around this?

Thanks again,

Outlook 2000 has two modes: Internet Mail Only, which supports POP3 and IMAP
accounts, and Corporate or Workgroup Mode, which supports POP3 and Exchange
accounts. Which mode is yours? Help>About will tell you. If you're using
CW mode and you don't need to access Exchange, you can switch to IMO, which
will support IMAP. If you need Exchange connectivity, you're out of luck.

If you can use IMO, then adding an IMAP account should be straight forward,
since it will be one of the choices presented to you by the Account Creation
Wizard.

Currently, I believe I can do without CW since I can still connect to an
Exchange server using IMAP. Eventually, that might change. Any chance
that newer versions of Outlook support CW and IMAP?

Thanks again,

Use Outlook Express for the IMAP account.

Yes, and not by chance. Outlook 2002 or 2003 have done away with the two
modes and can support IMAP and Exchange accounts simultaneously.
