Outlook 2000 hanging up

I have MS Office 2000 running on my 2 year old computer with absolutely no problems. Since last Friday, Outlook opens, a little slowly, and after I have clicked on 1 or sometimes 2 messages, I get the timer staying on and the system does not respond. I have to close it down and then start it up again. It didn't seem to want to start from my shortcut so I deleted that and ahave been opening it from the programs area. I have tried to click on the detect and repair but it says that the installation package could not be opened and to verify whether the package exists.
I have inserted the original CDs with Office 2000 but it still cannot find what it needs.
Can anyone help?
