Outlook 2000 doesn't completely shut down

Since upgrading to Windows XP I have noticed that Outlook 2000 doesn't fully
shut down. When I tried to run the personal folders backup add-in for
Outlook it responded
(after I closed Outlook) that Outlook had failed to shut down and that I
should try restarting Outlook and closing again or restart my computer. I
unloaded the backup add-in and don't receive the message anymore but, task
manager will show 1, 2 or sometimes 3 episodes of Outlook under the
"Processes" tab even when Outlook is closed.

Any help is appreciated.

PS
This causes a problem when trying to back up a pst file ("file in use"
error) or, as mentioned, when using the backup add-in for Outlook. The
backup add-in works only after Outlook closes and I have found that as long
as there is an "Outlook" listed in running processes the add-in will not
work and returns the error.
