Outlook 2000 crash - Address Book past "S"

Hello,
Hope someone can help here. We use Outlook 2000 and Exchange 5.5. I found
another similar post by kstroh on 1/21/05 without resolution. To see related
post search for "crash".

Issue: When creating a new message user selects Address book and scrolls.
When user hits the "S"s it will crash.
Can type the first letter, but not whole name, and select someone who is
showing. Can not scroll up, can not scroll down, or poof.

Error Produced: OUTLOOK.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An Error log is being created.

Attempted solutions: Applied all Office 2000 service packs, AdAware scan,
deleted outcmd.dat, took off MS-Word as editor, ran Help-->Repair. Searched
for an hour in groups.

Very much looking forward to a solution for this. To the person who replied
to the "M" freeze post I am unsure of what my mail support information or
store is, so please specify what exactly you need if you are to ask.

Thank you,

Aaron

This is a very common problem which Microsoft claims they cannot reproduce
and therefore cannot solve. Anecdotal reports claim the following may help:
1. Look for and correct a corrupt address in the Contacts displayed in the
Outlook Address Book (especially if the crash at the same place when
scrolling).
2. Remove then re-add the Outlook Address Book Service or, better yet,
create a new Outlook profile.
3. Update your video drivers.

Most people seem to find no solution.

you're using ol2000 and ex5.5 - you are most likely accessing the mailbox
directly and have to be using corporate mode.

When you scroll the address book, are you in the contacts folder or the
Global Address list?

Thank you Russ and Diane:

She is in the Select Names list when clicking on the To button in a New
E-mail. Then selects Contacts under the select from drop down at the top of
the dialog box.

You are correct about the environment.
