outlook 2000 and express running on same system duplicate contacts

i recently set up express to use a for different business i started. when i
noticed that the huge contact list from my outook 2000 showed in express, i
deleted it, not know that this would delete it in 2000. with further
investigation i found that two contact sub folders now existed in 2000 with
all of my original contacts.

now outlook 2000 never loads properly, eats up all memory allocated but
never completes loading. sometimes it gets to the, do you want to create new
personal folder window, but when i push yes it goes away and outlook sits
there still using all the memory. the outlook pst file is 497,000 . funny
thing is i can still send emails by using my access database to open the send
window. i think that maybe my contact and past send and inbox files are so
large that outlook cannot handle the memory needs. i have tried re installing
outlook but this does not fix the problem. what should i try?

Do you back up your data?
State which mail support mode of Outlook 2000 you are using and whether you
had configured your Windows Address Book to use your Outlook data as its
data source.

yes, i back up my data, but not regularly enough. if i lose my address book,
i can probably get it back from an upload i did to spoke.com

i don't know what you mean by mail support mode. where could i find that
out? i don't think i configured my windows address book. the software was all
installed at dell and ran when i started the system. where can i find that
info?

Your mail support mode is reported in Line 2 of Help | About in Outlook.
If it says "Internet Mail Only" then you were using a short-lived incomplete
version of Outlook that actually used Outlook Express for most of its
functions without ever telling you it was doing so. So if you deleted data
from Outlook Express, you deleted it from Outlook as well.
Just a little Microsoft "gotcha" for not paying attention to their little
tricks.
