Outlook 07 hangs, painfully slow

I've recently upgraded from Office 03 to Office 07 on a Vista Home Premium
quad core system. Outlook is painfully slow and periodically stops
altogether. I've tried the various suggestions - renaming the dat files to
old, unchecking add-ins. The version is Outlook 2007 (12.0.6316.5000) SP 1
MSO. Any suggestions much appreciated.
 
I've tried all of those suggestion with the exception of creating a new
profile, which seemed unduly complicated. Given all the compalints about this
issue it seems very strange that the people who buy the product are being
asked to fix it. Is there no fix coming?
 
I don't know of anything specific coming, just the usual updates as they are
ready for prime time. What do you find difficult about creating a new
profile?
 
Nothing particularly difficult, just time I'd rather spend working at my
computer than on it. In any event, I created a new profile to no discernible
effect. If anything, the hang-ups are more frequent and longer-lasting.
