Outlook 03 Crashes when I attach files.

Whenever I attempt to attach a file to an email I'm composing the CPU use
skyrockets and WINWORD.exe uses up all my system resources. This continues
without end until I either manually (ctl alt delete) shut down Outlook or
shut down the system. The "browse" window does open sometimes and i can even
find the file i want to add sometimes and hit enter but it will always crash
at some point between click on attach file and hitting enter to add the file.

make sure you have the latest Service Pack installed. Try with a new
profile. Disable Word as the email editor (only a workaround - Word should
be ok but it's that peaking the CPU).

I'm up to date as I have auto-update active on my computer. I have SP1 right now. How would i do the workaround until a permanent fix can be found?

Just disable Word as the editor and see if it helps:
From the main Microsoft Outlook window, click the Tools menu, click Options,
and then click the Mail Format tab.
Clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.

Hello again,
I completed the workaround and the attachments seem to be working, albeit at
the loss of the Word capability. I appreciate your help but was wondering if
anyone knew of a permanent fix so I can begin to use Winword.exe again.

thanks again

I haven't seen this problem with Word before. The best I can suggest is to
Repair the Office installation and update to the latest Service Pack.

Heya,

Thanks for your assistance. I have Windows automatically updating my
computer so I don't know which updates I need that aren't already installed.
I believe I already have the latest service pack (SP2) and I'm not sure what
you mean by "repair the Office installation". Once again thanks for your help!

News update. The Word workaround isn't working anymore as now OUTLOOK.exe is
peaking the CPU. I tried to switch back but then WINWORD.exe peaked it. I'm
back at square one.
