Outlined numbered lists doesn't work. When an outlined type is selected it works for the 1st level only, then goes back to normal text. I checeed the autocorrect options and the automatic bulleted list is selected. Please help!

Hi Karen

If you want to get even moderate control over your numbering in Word,
then you need to do the following:

1. Tools > Autocorrect Options > Autoformat as you type. *Un-tick*
everything that mentions bullets or numbering.

2. Look fondly at the bullet and numbering buttons on the toolbar. Wish
them well in their future careers and promise you'll never use them
again. The results you get from using those buttons are entirely
erratic.

3. Use styles for all your numbering. There are built-in styles to do
lots of numbering tasks. But first you have to make sure you can see
them all! In Word 2000 and before, do Format > Styles and in the
Category box choose "All Styles". In Word 2002 and later, do Format >
Styles and Formatting. In the Show box choose "All Styles".

4. To apply ordinary numbering (ie not outline numbering), find the
Style box on the toolbar (it probably says "Normal"). Click the arrow
and choose "List Number".

5. When you create a paragraph in style List Number, and then press
Enter to get to the next paragraph, it will also be in style List
Number. When you've finished creating your list, and want to go back to
ordinary un-numbered text, choose style Normal or Body Text or whatever
you're using for un-numbered ordinary text.

The following page is about using the List Bullet style to create
bullets, but the advice there also applies to the List Number style to
get numbering, so it might be useful for you:

However, if you need outline numbering (1, 1.1, 1.1. etc), then see:
How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in your Word
Document

Hope this helps.

Hi

Could you please tell me where to find this option.

I'm brushing up on my Word skills but my computer is in French and I don't
recognise this option.

Thanks
