This isn't a typical running out of ram situation. Our system runs for many hours without issues. We have an intermittent issue that manifests itself in an out of virtual memory error.

Here's what happens.

For some reason yet to be determined, windows is created large dump files in the temp directory. These files are consistently 70megs in size and after a certain period of time they are automatically deleted. It appears windows cleans up after itself after some time. We are not the ones deleting these files.

The issue is, even when the file is deleted, EWF in RAM REG mode still occupies the 70megs of ram. So the next time this happens, there's an additional 70megs of ram occupied by EWF and that kills our system giving us an "out of virtual memory" dialog.

We have yet to figure out the root cause of these dumps, but I'm hoping in the mean time we can find a workaround to prevent it from running out of ram.

Is there a way to tell EWF to purge any information its keeping? You can see this for yourself by copying a large file to a protected partition. You will see the ram usage grow by the same amount. Then delete the file. EWF does not release that ram. Interestingly, if you copy more data back onto the volume, the ram usage won't grow until you surpass the size of the original file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can anybody at least point in the right direction as to a good way to debug this? We've been trying to various things for over a month now with no success in identifying the culprit.
