Using office XP Outlook, when out of office reply is
activated the it responds to internal mail but when mail
is send from an external source the out of office reply do
not send the reply to external source. Using Exchange 5.5
I looked at microsoft's knowledge baseand all that I could
find is that if there were a alternate recipient the mail
should be send to both, the user do not have an alternate
recipient.

By default, the Internet Mail Connector on Exchange 5.5 is configured to not
allow out of office and auto reply/forward notifications to be sent to the
internet. The reason for this default configuration is that allowing out of
office or auto reply/forward items to be sent to the internet can (and most
likely will) introduce a mail loop that can bring down the server.

After saying the above, do you want the steps on how to enable?
