Out of Office - no reply

I have outlook 98 and it does will not reply with an 'out
of office message' to senders. I know I have set it
correctly because when I return to outlook it prompts me
to turn out office assistant off.
 
Are you using Exchange server?
If not this won't work...

Are you testing this from the internet? If yes, then you should be aware
that the default configuration of Exchange is to not allow out of office and
automatic reply/forwards to be sent to the internet. This feature has to be
turned on because it could expose your server to a mail loop.
