Out of MS-DOS file handles error message

2 of our computers here are displaying this message anytime they try to open
up any form in the database.

Access can open the database front end and the switchboard does display.
But any of the forms used to add/edit/delete the data cause this error to be
displayed. Attempting to open a report also displays the same error.

There is only one application running in the background besides Access.
Does anyone know of an easy way to fix this?

check the permissions on the file/folder so that users have
read/write/delete permissions
 
The folder does allow users to read/write/delete files in it. I forgot to
mention that this is a folder on a network.

There are 2 front end files located there temporarily, they both work on
other computers, but they do not work only on those 2 machines.
