Out of Memory - Opening Folder in Windows Explorer

Guest

Recently we receive a lot of out of memory messages when around 30 users are
connected to the terminal server. The server has 3 GB Ram in it and when
checking the task manager everything looks good (cpu usage around 10%, memory
usage around 20%). Most users only work with office xp.
Wenn less users are connected no problem occures. The problem starts when
there are around 280 threads started...
Actually the server only had 1.5 GB ram when the problem occured the first
time, so we encreased the Ram to 3 GB ... but the problem remains.

Any idea what the problem could be?

Which OS are you running on the Terminal Server?
Is there anything in the EventLog?
When you added the extra RAM, did you also increase the size of the
pagefile?

It's a Win 2000 Server.

The only events I get in the eventlog are Source:Folder EventID:109 Not
enougth memory for folder redirections when a user tries to log on to the
server.

And I also found this error Source:Srv EventID:2020 something like could not
reserve poolmemory because the pool is empty.

Sorry, I cannot give you the exact english sentence because the server is
running a german os...

P.S. I'm pretty empressed about how fast your first answer came!!

Tom

I just happen to be online. If you post at another time of the day,
it could take me 24 hours or more to see your post.

The important Event here is the 2020 from Srv:
"The server was unable to allocate from the system paged pool
because the pool was empty."

This probably means that you have a memory leak somewhere on your
server. Adding more memory is not going to solve it :-(

Have a look at the description of this Event on EventID.net. There
are a lot of possible causes for memory leaks, including 3th party
applications, printer drivers, anti-virus software, etc.

Hmm, okay. I have Symantec AntiVirus running on that server. I'll update this
software and maybe it helps...

Thank you very much for your help Vera!

Best regards

Tom
