OT ~ Update awareness and IrfanView???

Okay, first I apologize for being somewhat off topic....but I've been to
several on topic lists with no answers thus far. I'm not the geekiest
person in the world, but I dabble enough to keep in trouble;o) On most
updates, Microsoft (WinXPsp2) feels the need to reset at least one item that
tweaks my os ~ which I believe is only done to irritate the average user
into submission. I don't submit easily and usually find out how to reset to
my satisfaction.

On the past two updates however, I have a very irritating issue that has now
left my IrfanView and (ot) psp programs lagging seriously. The first update
screwed up my ability to view gifs properly....causing the default viewer to
bring a popup warning the dangers that lurk in this type of file, and then
take about 30 seconds to display only one frame, and then offer to send a
friendly note to MS before closing. This past week, it's now effecting jpgs
in the same manner. All this has seriously caused issues with my ability to
view the graphics in all my graphic groups....searched every java, active-x,
and anything else I think might remotely effect it...to no avail.
Interesting to me is that if a gif or jpg is inserted into the email as
opposed to attached, I see it just fine through IrfanView. Initially I
thought since IV was my default that was the issue, however, if I open the
program and view alone without being in OE or Mozilla....I do not have the
issue.

If anyone has the slightest clue as to what might cure this, or what it was
that was "fixed" in the last two updates, I would be ever so
grateful....complete with accolaides;o)

If anyone has the slightest clue as to what might cure this,

Open Menue "Options",
select "Select file associations..."
and pick your choice (e.g. pictures only
or select all); OK.

better now?

My suggestion is to change the graphic viewing settings in Irfanview to
anything different and then change back to the wanted settings. If that
fails a complete uninstall and reinstall of Irfanview.
