Was there any software with the hard drive? Often a manufacturer will
include software with a new hard drive that allows you to transfer files
from the old drive.

1. Some drive manufacturers have software. Check their website.

2. xxcopy: http://www.xxcopy.com/ Worked for me, but read the
instructions all the way through.

3. HDcopy: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1288.html Seems to work.

WinXP seems to cause a problem. xxcopy doesn't work with WinXP; not
sure about HDcopy.

The DOS partition program Ranish Partition Manager will copy
partitions or entire drives. Get it here: http://www.ranish.com/part/

Since you mentioned linux... If you're brave enough and are able to
plug-in all three HDs, have you thought about using 'dd' in its
device to device transfer mode?. Maybe something along the lines of:

dd if=/dev/hda[x] of=/dev/hdb[x] (read man dd)

[x] indicates partition specifics. Not needed here, but possibly.

Not sure how this will work in regards to XP and its product
activation crap. Give it a try. If the drive you're transferring
[to] is larger then [from], I don't expect you'll need any extra
'dd' options. Besides, you've nothing to lose here save time (Just
don't typo and put data where it isn't supposed to go!). Be sure to
reconfig the dual boot set-up afterwards.

Don't be too surprised to find this actually works like a charm.
Don't be too surprised to find XP won't like this at all. ;)

Good luck.

best regards,

Try the seagate site, http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/utils.html

They have a utility called discwizard, install your new HD go to the
site click their discwizard, it starts an active x script
it copies the files to the drive you nominate, formats it and even
changes the drive names letters to the old. the only caveat is if its a
non seagate drive they will not provide tech support. I was amazed it
took less no time at all to do 20 gb to 80gb including a reboot to swap
the drive letters. both non seagate drives

X-No-Archive: yes

Are you sure?

IMHO, Ranish's Partition Manager is excellent but cannot copy
partitions by itself.

But the documents give you instructions how to move or resize
partitions using other DOS tools.
