Hi,

As say the subject. I ran AVAST and Spybot, without success.
I also tried to stop all apps from a task manager, maybe it's explorer
related btw. Maybe it's a hidden server somewhere, -something
that doesn't appears in a task manager ? First time i noticed it
was after having payed gov taxes. They installed a java "thing"
(signed from our president)

This blinking light is driving me mad :(

WinME, 512Mo, freemeter is reporting 100% usage

You can use Filemon from
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html to find out which
process is writing to your harddisk

Thanks, i will, but right now it has stopped...

Is it a hard drive recalibration?

HDD will periodically recalibrate themselves. It should not make a lot
of noise but you might hear some actuator activity.

If it is this then the very good FileMon will not pick it up. And I
suspect that Diskmon won't either.

Could it be Avast generating it VRDB (Virus Recovery Database)?
By default it happens each three weeks, and writes a lot on the HD...

I 've got some result with filemon : actually, my cpu is 100% usage,
and it is stmgr.exe (was : just finish) . Stmgr.exe was busy 20mn with
RESTORE stuff....! that is the culprit
