off topic because what Im looking for doesnt neccesarily need to be
freeware, but Im posting here because this group seems to be frequented
(mostly) by knowledgeable people.

is there any browser , extension, add-in, etc that will save a cached
copy with my annotations of all bookmarked pages for viewing offline or
if the site no longer exists?
So that whenever I bookmark a page it saves a copy with my notes
locally on my computer.

anything using IE is out!

this is very much like what Im looking for but it only works on IE
http://www.bookmark-manager.net/

Scrapbook is about archiving webpages:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/07/t...tml?ex=1270526400&en=61797f6d69cab622&ei=5088

If you want to archive you can also use the MAF extension, or Furl at
http://www.furl.net

Furl allows you to comment your pages, and develop your own keywords. It
provides a private view, available only for you, and a public one which
is searchable by any search machine on the web.

Furl is quite useful as it adds value to your own catalogue of pages: it
allows to see who shares the same interests as you do, save the same
pages, who read your pages, and thus create a knowledge network. You
learn by giving.

But is this what you want ?
If you use firefox and want only want to maanage your bookmarks, look
for a file named bookmark.html A least, this gives you the links in
their hierarchie.

I believe I tried this out a few months ago but rejected it because it
wasnt integrated with the bookmarks. however it does do a lot of what I
want. thanks for reminding me of this

MAF looks like like it lacks folders & tree viewing.
Furl also lacks this & I would like to be able to use offline.

I like the way firefox bookmarks work already. I just want to be able
to retreive a page if it no longer exists or if I am offline.
