OT Re IE 7 ...

H

Helen

Critics say new features such as tabbed browsing, a search box on a toolbar, and
thumbnail graphics of open pages merely move IE to parity with older browsers like Opera and
Firefox.

But Dave Winer, a pioneer Net developer, praised Microsoft for including an RSS reader
and support for podcasts.

The expected widespread adoption of IE 7 "may create a diverse community of applications,
far beyond the small number of 'podcatcher' applications that are currently available," Winer
wrote on his Web log.

A review by PC World magazine concluded that "IE 7 is just not that big a whoop, [but] in
most ways that matter (including security) IE 7 is a better browser than IE 6."

An earlier beta version of Explorer 7 was available only to Web developers, but this one
is accessible for public evaluation at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/default.mspx.

Reviewers warn that the software has crashed and is not ready for prime time, suggesting
that only the adventurous give IE 7 a whirl before it's fully tested and released. That'll be
around the time Microsoft offers Vista, its next operating system.

This article from MarketWatch can be called a classical example of how
to turn the meaning of the original upside down, for commercial purposes
(I understand there were also recent examples in the political realm in
the Country of Unlimited Opportunities).

Or might I write, for the morally sensible souls, in politically correct
writing: It *might* be called a classical example of an eventual
misunderstanding of the published writing of someone else?
Critics say new features such as tabbed browsing, a search box on a toolbar, and

Firefox.

Who is that stupid that pretends that the OLDER browsers were Firefox or
Opera?

IE was not deliberately stopped in its development for years to repeat
nothing but profits, and leaving its users open to series of security
attacks? Why has the market share of IE dropped from more than 95% to
below 80% in Europe? Because Europeans, and in particular the geeks,
prefer OLDER and insecure browsers.

It most be that.

Or is it just that he wants to use the good reputation of PC World,
which is often quite critical vis-à-vis MS by 'inadvertedly' changing
the meaning into its contrary?

A review by PC World magazine concluded that "IE 7 is just not that big a whoop, [but] in
most ways that matter (including security) IE 7 is a better browser than IE 6."

And the original article reads:
http://blogs.pcworld.com/techlog/archives/001373.html
But overall, IE 7 is just not that big a whoop. Mostly, it brings an increasingly antiquated browser up to rough parity with Firefox and Opera, two products which have improved by leaps and bounds during the years that IE has mostly stood still. It does have a few nice features that its rivals don't, but none of them are life-changing experiences. And for me, at least, it it retains some old annoyances--and introduces at least one new one.

Funny, the difference. Now you understand why he did not provide the
entire citation.
From the last line I understand that the writer has a commercial
interest in writing such a wrotten nonsense.

He's also one of the spin doctors that pushed the rumour about MS buying
Opera.

Helen, why do you send us such a crap ?

Yawn. What it does as new, I can already do. The RSS feeds thing may make RSSing take off for the casual internet user, but there
really isn't any difference to the browsing experience which I will notice, except that I'll have to acclimatize myself to a
"new-look" any time I'm using a PC that's not my own... Plus, the tab thing is a bit annoying. If one page goes down because of a
bug, the application becomes unstable and you can lose all the tabs you have open, which doesn't happen as often when you have
separate windows open, running different instances of IE. They are clearly just releasing 7 because it's time for a new number.

MS were fast at releasing 2, 3 and 4. 5 and 6 is now, for a long period

I would say 7 is only a third alternative to 5 and 6.
If it will have (disableable :)) Tabbed Browsing, I'll give it a try.
Although 6 is really better than any other Browser I know. Netscape 8
is farting from time to time, but it have a nice TEXT-Magnifier, as
K-Meleon does, (Ctrl ++). Works better than the four-step (though
http-standard :-() magnifier of IE.

Tabbed browsing is ok but you need not accept IE for that, Firefox - or
before, Moziall - have it since - a year, at least.
