Never had a problem with Symantec products but that's not saying much as I've
only ever used their anti-virus aka NAV.

I'll remember that the next time I uninstall 3 programs and Win Doctor has me
manually delete 6 dozen shortcuts that lost their targets. Then all those Active
X things Norton Win Doctor takes care of, manually.
C'mon, what other program can help me do stuff like that?

Using a program to help is fine - but never accept what it says without
checking!
As an example - running WinDoctor on a system with AOL installed will (try
to) remove a number of things which are essential for AOL to run.
Fortunately, it appears that AOL self-heals on a restart and replaced the
removed items.

Yes or No !

There are always some "out there" whose Windows platforms are hovering on
the brink of major software collapse - WHATever is next installed, and of
course that could, (unfortunately for Norton and any other application
software product) - be a Norton product.

Off topic here, but...

Not "Lovely" perhaps but it gets the job done for me. I just bought
NIS 2004 on Ebay for $6 plus shipping. THAT part was lovely.

...trundle along to http://www.grc.com with your little NAT router, and
click on the "Shields-Up" hyperlink to see just how good your "NAT"
firewalled router is !! :-)

Okay....With a router and NIS active:

GRC Port Authority Report created on UTC: 2006-01-04 at 10:38:57

Results from scan of ports: 0-1055

0 Ports Open
1 Ports Closed
1055 Ports Stealth
---------------------
1056 Ports Tested

NO PORTS were found to be OPEN.

The port found to be CLOSED was: 113

Other than what is listed above, all ports are STEALTH.

TruStealth: FAILED - NOT all tested ports were STEALTH,
- NO unsolicited packets were received,
- NO Ping reply (ICMP Echo) was received.

== =
I think it'll suffice.

Here's mine with NIS 2006 and Linksys router:

With JUST WinXP firewall, my computer had exactly the same
results. Big deal.

NO!

BTW, Norton seems lovely for Google:
