[OT] list of applications that require Administrative privileges

M

Marco

Hi everybody,

I am putting together a list of popular applications that require
administrative privileges in order to run and I would appreciate some help.

Please share the names of the applications that you think should, or would
like to, run without having to grant such privileges to end users.

Please email the information to: marco2 -> neovalens -> com [ replace @ and
dots where appropriate... ]

Thanks!

This is already being done by MVP Susan Bradley, here:

http://www.threatcode.com/

If you want the information for a school project or your own
information, that site should be helpful. You might even want to email
Susan and participate. If you were thinking about creating a public
website, you might not want to reinvent the wheel.

thanks a lot for the info: I will have a look at the apps listed to begin
with.

BTW, I recall having seen that web site a while ago but then forgot the URL.

FYI, I am not creating a hall of same web site but rather I am trying to
understand what popular application requires admin privs in order to provide
sample rules for our product -> I probably should have made it clear from
the beginning.

I am not necessarily after bad applications: A lot of the sysinternals tools
do require administrative privileges and we allow unprivivilged users to use
them.

Here is an example: http://www.neovalens.com/samplerules.htm

Apologies for not been clear.

cheers,

Marco

Ah, I see. Good luck with that, and I'm sure Susan's site will be
helpful.

Cheers,
