OT: Irfanview batch processing

Dennis Allen

Hi. I've been trying out Irfanview and have a question. I have several
folders (and sub-folders) of jpeg files. I want to make thumbnail
versions of all the jpeg files. I've set it up to append the suffix
_thumbnail to each file. Problem. The thumbnails need to be in the
same directory as the original images. Can this be done? If so, how?

Yep,
Just set the save to directory to the one with the images.
Actually, if you create one and save it, IrfanView will remember the location and then you can run
the batch.

You can also have it create your slide show. The pages will need editing afterwards though.

Hmmm ... if they don't end up in the same directory can't you just move them
there after the process is finished (using Windows Explorer).

Pretty hard to do. If I got 3 folders, each has 5 sub-folders, each one
of those might have one or two folders with a bunch of jpegs. If they
all thumbnails get dumped into one directory, who's to say what goes
where? And if you happen to have two different jpeg files, in different
folders, with the same name, what then?

Isn't there a way to specify, create the thumbnail in the same directory
where you find the original jpeg?

Case in point: I have 3 folders, each one might have 9 sub-folders.
Each sub-folder might have a more sub-folders, each one of those
sub-folders could have a couple of images, or maybe another sub-folder
full of images. If I have to do go each and every sub-folder to create
thumbnails 1) I'm bound to miss something, 2) that's a lot of
work...Dennis

Ouch ...Time to reorganize before attempting to make the thumbnails.

IrfanView will only work with one folder at a time.
Actually, I don't think there's any utility that will work with more than one directory
in a single "instance."

I was using Konvertor, to convert pdf files to jpegs. It does
sub-folder batching. But now I've got just the jpeg files.

I suppose I could live with all my thumbnails in one folder. I'm just
worried that two different images from two different folders might have
the same name. Could cause confusion.

reading between the lines here...I hope you're not generating the images
directly into FP from IrFanview.

I wrote a program that generates javascript code to display a web page,
for a given folder of images. Since I don't use the FP auto thumbnail,
I needed another way to make them.
