OT: how do you search the newsgroups?

Everytime I attempt to search for a topic, all I seem to
get are posts from the past several weeks, even though I
may request the search period be for several years!! Is
there a trick to get this to work?

Use google, they keep all the information.
Your ISP either maintains or subscribes to a server and that one will not
keep the posts for any great length of time.
