Hi All,

Reason I am asking here is because I posted a post here and the reply
included my brand new email address. Now I am getting spam from
(e-mail address removed) saying I should apply a patch which I am sure would
screw up my computer. My Question is how do they forge a email address,
especially Microsoft's.

TIA

Don't post your email address anywhere. Use a fake one. Or
set up a separate account for when you have to use an email
address so the junk will go there instead of your main
account.

First off, DELETE ANYTHING allegedly coming from Microsoft that's
unexpected. They never have, do not, and hopefully never will send out
email like you received; the real MS directs you to their website and
necessary link for downloads What you got is, in all probability, virus
laden.

Forgery is easy. In OE, go to Tools>Accounts...>Mail (or News)
tab>Properties. Next dialog box has spaces to enter what's displayed in the
account specified. The sender probably has several accounts.

Other advice about not having your REAL email address on NG's definitley
applies.
