~OT~:CRT to LCD

I'm considering a new monitor and am lusting after LCD. I use my system
mostly for business apps, TV, DVD viewing and infrequently, gaming.
I'm assuming that most LCDs take on the wide screen format and this is
attractive to me and great for viwing movies, but are the business apps
somehow adversely affected by this format?

Also, I notice that newegg has a Sceptre X20G NAGA II on sale for under $500
(1600x1200). Any opinions on this monitor are welcome and appreciated:

Hmmm. Looks like a great deal.Looks remarkably like the Dell 2001FP (which I
own currently), and about $50 cheaper than the Dell. I am very happy with my
Dell for gaming and video work. I highly recommend it. Good find!

Nope. Business apps work fine. BTW, the Sceptre you noted below definitely
is NOT widescreen.

According to the NewEgg user reviews, the monitor looks good only if you
keep the desktop resolution at 1600x1200. This suggests the monitor's
interpolation quality may not be that good for running lower resolutions. It
all depends if you can live with the smaller text at 1600x1200.

Well, now that you've mentioned the 2001FP, I had to check that out as well.
Looks very interesting, and the reviews are good and the price right. But
the reviews do mention that Blacks are kind of washed out. Has that been
your experience? Are there any other caveats that you're aware of (I'm
assuming that you've had this monitor for a while...)?

Thanks,
Hark

Thanks for the correction...I thought it was.

True, but my understanding is that most LCDs have issues at any resolution
other than the native resolution for that given LCD?

Do you have any knowledge of the Dell 2001FP HockeyTown mentions? I'm
actually swaying more toward the Dell than the Sceptor now. It's in the same
price range and seems to be better liked by reviewers...

Thanks,
Hark

Sorry for the delayed response, but I *love* my Dell LCD. Unless I have bad
judgements of "black" it works just fine. I played Doom 3 on it and it
looked black to me ;) You can't go wrong.

If you want widescreen, Dell offers the 2005FPW which is a 20" widescreen.
Same technology as the 2001FP, just widescreen. It's a good deal.

Thanks, Hockey. I have made the decision for the 2001FP, but just missed the
dell specials which would have brought it down to $400 or less. I'm told
that Dell generally runs specials such as I've missed at the end of the
quarter [which just started :( ]. Fortunately, I don't *need* the monitor
right now, so I've decided to wait and watch for the price to go down. Who
knows, by then, Dell may be running a special on the 2405...

Thanks again,
Hark

Yes, and right now it can be had for $389.00, but, having investigated more
thoroughly since this thread, I prefer the full screen, as it has more area.
The 2001FP is what I'm going for, unless Dell produces something better that
can be found for cheaper...

Thanks,
Hark
