[OT] Anti Virus Programs

I got rid of my McAfee a couple of months ago to a friend :-).
Glad I did - this month McA were warned that because of a 'flaw' in the
company's virus pattern database, they flagged Windows components and other
progs as problems.
Effected applications included Excel and XP.
They assured those effected by this error, could safely restore these files
etc to their correct places, from quarantine.
Those items 'deleted' can be returned via back-up or System Restore.
There are hundreds of such deleted/quarantined files etc.
Some I think were related to System Restore?
I wonder how many recently posted problems are a result of this revelation?

I hear that it is good, too, which is why I have it. I just thought a
paid one might be better. If not, so much the better as I like the

Not necessarily true.

I learned my lesson the hard way from McAfee. It corrupted my system files
so bad I couldnt even boot without getting a BSOD. I uninstalled McAfee and
it stopped.
