OSX -> win2003 via SMB wont connect

Andrew Suthanah

Hi all,

we have installed a nes 2003 server as a DC.

SFM installed and running for OS9x clients

OSX users attempting SMB://server_ip get a login box. Upon
entry of user/password they get "Client could not connect
to the server because the name or password is not correct"

Both are correct!!

Any ideas?

Also using OSX command "findsmb" the 2003 server is not
visible although the 2000 server is. We can log on to the
old server using the same credentials.

cheers

Andy

Hi Andy!

A security policy is enabled preventing unsigned communications such as SMB
connections from being accepted by the server. This article on Microsoft's
website doesn't specifically mention Mac connections, but it is describing
the problem. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811497

I would suggest that your Mac OS X machines connect using "afp://server_ip"
instead of "smb://server_ip" to prevent possible problems when sharing files
between the down-level Macs.

Hope this helps! bill

Thanks William!

I figured this out and applied the DC policy regarding
SMB signing.

You are a star :)
