Most likely the client is sleeping the connection and the server disconnects
after not hearing from the client for 2 minutes. Windows 2000 servers use
the AFP2.2 spec that requires this 2 minute forceful disconnect while the
Mac OS X clients use AFP3.X which allows clients to sleep after notifying
the server. Both client and server are doing the right thing - it is an
incompatibility between AFP versions. There is no reg key or configuration
change that can be made to the server to change this behavior. You can
create shortcuts to the server to quickly reconnect.

We are having the same problem. This is the best
description I have found so far but not a solution.
People are losing work because of it. So is Microsoft
telling me to go buy a MAC OS X Server instead of trying
to use Microsoft Windows Server and lose the MAC Cals we
buy for them to connect? This has been an ongoing problem
and I would have thought Microsoft would have addressed it
by now if they want MAC users to use a Windows based
server for file sharing and storage. I am an avid
Microsoft user but the complaints and pressure are
mounting to the point where I may not be able to hold them
off any longer. If a rep from Microsoft reads this please
respond if there is a solution that is not well published
otherwise future Server OS purchases and MAC user CAL's
are at stake.

Thank You...
